We purchased this ice cream maker for a supporter who has a similar one. I've had 2 of these Rival ice cream makers for 2 years and find them well-methodical in design (the oval is more well-methodical than a circular bucket) and very easy to set up, and to clean up. I have had numerous of these Rival 4 quart ice cream makers. They do a good job of building ice cream. More importantly, I am able to use them with ice from the ice maker in my refrigerator/freezer and with habitual table salt. While the contemporary directions call for rock salt and crushed ice, there is ample room in the pail to use the half moon shaped ice cubes made by many refrigerators. I put one cup of cold water in the empty pail after installing the can gathering with the ice cream mix. I then slot in a layer of ice, a layer of fixed table salt, and bonus flashing layers of ice and salt up to just below the top of the can. I then poor a additional cup of cold water over this mixture, and fill to just over the top of the can with ice. This makes a batch of ice cream in about 45 summary. I use one full 26 ounce container of salt or now and again a bit less than one container. (These directions came from an before version of the same ice maker.)This contemporary version uses less ice since the outer pail is oval and only needs ice on two sides very than all the way almost the incorporation can.
